Almost every site that has anything to do with social partner dancing will have an entire page dedicated to etiquette. The Dance Primer doesn’t yet, but I’m sure given some time, it will. It’s not that dance floor etiquette is so much different than the rest of the world, but when you’re in close physical contact, the effects of your behavior and habits can be magnified.
I always hate missing a night of dancing. Right now, I try to get out at least every Thursday, and then for any live music events on top of that. I feel bad when I miss a night of seeing my friends and doing what I love to do.
But let me tell you something, when I get out there on the dance floor - I don’t care who you are (a close friend or a stranger) - I DO NOT want to see you wipe your nose with your hand right before it reaches out and grasps my own hand. Yucky yucko ew ew ew. It seems like common sense, but you’d be surprised how often it happens.
That’s why when I feel boogery and sniffely, no matter how much I would like to be out dancing, I don’t. Please don’t go infecting all the other dancers out there! And remember, wash your hands.
