I used to dabble with photography, and captured this shot of my college friend, Kaylene. I was happy to get her at this moment, and all she could do was cringe at her imperfect technique. I read a quote from Voltaire, via The Happiness Project, saying “don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” I would say that applies 100% to social dancing, and much to the enjoyment of watching others perform. But, I think performing artists can and should strive for perfection. As long as they don’t let lack of perfection keep them locked away from sharing their talent, thus letting that ideal become an enemy. What are your thoughts? Please share in the comments.

Excellent thoughts. I believe perfection should always be the goal. It should not, however, lock people away from sharing their talents, like you said. When striving perfection people get this crazy idea that it’s actually attainable on this earth.
They get so caught up in it that when they fall short they allow themselves to get depressed/stressed/angry/whatever.
Striving for perfection and being happy where you’re at without becoming complacent is a difficult thing! But it sure feels great!
