I need your help. Even though nothing beats live dance instruction, my sister suggested this site should have a list of great instructional videos, and I agree. Not everyone can line up regular babysitters, or lives in a city with quality instruction - I used to have to drive five hours to get to the nearest dance workshops.
Unfortunately, it’s been several years since I’ve viewed any dance instructional videos, so I don’t know what the best ones out there are. Also, I only know about swing dancing videos - and nothing about videos for other genres. A list would be helpful for anyone who needs help with holiday gift ideas, too…
Can you please help me? What are your favorite dance instructional videos?

i’ve never used video a lot, but one of our local dancers made me a believer by coming in with a lot of stuff from http://www.idance.net — i knew he wasn’t traveling to events yet, but he was getting too good too fast to be learning purely from the local lessons, so i interrogated him one day about where it was coming from

I have tried a host of videos on different swing dances. For lindy hop, the Doug Silton viodeos, while numerous, are a good source for opening your dancing to many variations and it is helpful to make your dancing more creative by giving you the philosophy with which he creates new moves. Try the scrolling viodeo or the 8 count variations. For collegiate shag, Marcus and Barbl’s videos are the best. They have DVDs for four levels and each gives more complex footwork and moves. M&B also have a balboa video which is adequate but not as comprehensive as the shag tape. The only adequate 20s charleston video that I know of is from Joel and Allison Plys.
